Online Grading

Online Gradebook
http://www.engrade.com

The online gradebook in this website is easy to use and easy to manage. As a teacher, this is one tool that would really make grading easier. It makes grading sooooo easy. Just add the information you want and click! You're done. Teachers have a lot of papers to grade and the software even calculates the grades and the weights of your tests, quizzes, assignments at the push of a button. You can also track behavior and add notes to calendars. Parents and students will also like this software, because they can access their grades online. It helps students and parents track their progress in their class.

Proprietary software vs. Open Source software

The difference is in the definition!

Proprietary software is a term used to describe software in which the user does not control what it does or cannot study or edit the code, in contrast to free software.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprietary_software

Open source software allows for anyone with programming experience to revise and change the programming code to suit their individual needs. It allows to fully customize your settings. Many of today's popular software programs once started as an open source software program.

Webquest Project

Curriculum: Science Grade Level(s): 3-5 Language: English Author: Judy Kim Other Author(s): Carlynn Attao Last Updated: 09/11/2007 Status: Complete WebQuest Public Access URL: http://instantprojects.org/webquest/webquest.php?AuthorID=12091

For this webquest project we focused on the planets in our solar system. We weren't familiar with using a webquest as a tool for student learning, so we decided to choose a topic that would be easy to approach in this experience.
The learning outcomes of this topic are 1) using technology/internet to find information on topics, 2) learn important information about planets and its place in our solar system.
The most important lesson was using technology to do this project for student learning. I believe the software is a very useful tool in learning. The next time I prepare a project for my students using webquest, I will have them look for the websites themselves. I think it will teach them how to locate the information they need in order to do their lesson/activity.
I would also like to add that the project is collaborative lesson.

Mind Mapping

Good Morning Class,

Today we will be learning about the types of bodies of water that exist in the world.
A body of water is any significant accumulation of water such as an ocean, a lake, or a river, usually covering the Earth or another planet. Some bodies of water can be man-made, or artificial, such as a pond, lake or harbor, but most are naturally occurring geographical features. Bodies of water that are navigable are known as waterways. Some bodies of water collect and move water, such as rivers and streams, and others primarily hold water, such as lakes and oceans. The term 'body of water' can also refer to a reservoir of water held by a plant, technically known as a phytotelma. In common usage, the term 'body of water' is usually used to refer only to a large accumulations of water, such as oceans, seas and lakes. It is less commonly used to refer to smaller pools of water such as ponds, puddles or wetlands. Rivers, streams, canals and other geographical features where water moves from one place to another are not always considered bodies of water, but are included here as geographical formations featuring water.
The objective of this mind mapping lesson is:
-Students will be able to identify the types of bodies of water that exist in the world.
-Students will be able to identify the five oceans of the world.
-Students will be able to identify the four great lakes of the world.
The mind mapping lesson will help student visualize what they are learning and how broad topics can be and how they can be shortened to specific topics. I also think this is the most important lesson that I learned from this activity.
What I liked about the mind mapping tool that I used for this activity is that it offers other types of mind mapping tools for different subjects.
My mind mapping activity right now is in its first stage, but next time I would like to show how it can be shortened to more specific topic/areas.
